Easter Beer Hunt

Are you reminiscent of the days when you used to wake up on Easter, grab your Easter egg basket and start hunting for Easter eggs, candy, and prizes?  I know I am.  I’m lucky if I still get to color Easter eggs for Easter.  The older we get, the more we notice that kids really do have all the fun!  Well, let’s change that this year.  How about an Easter beer hunt?  I’m game!

National Beer Day!

Ah, a day in history.  April 7th, 1933 was the day that President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Cullen-Harrison Act, which allowed people to brew and sell beer in the US as long as it remained below 4.0% ABV (wine included).  The first step towards the end of Prohibition!  For the first time in 13 years, beer drinkers across the nation were celebrating…legally.

National Beer Can Appreciation Day!

Today celebrates the historic moment when beer cans were introduced to the market.  January 24th, 1935 marks this day in history. The Gottfried Krueger Brewing Company teamed up with the American Can Company and delivered 2,000 cans of their finest beer and Cream Ale to their customers in Richmond, Virginia.  Since the canned beer was so widely received, they decided to go ahead with production.  In three months, over 80% of all distributors were selling Krueger’s beer.  By the end of that year, over 200 million cans were produced and sold!

Drinko de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo – ‘the fifth of May’ marks a very important day in the history of Mexico.  No, it is not Mexico’s Independence Day.  Cinco de Mayo is the celebration commemorating the Mexican army defeating the larger enemy, France, as they tried to advance to Mexico City from Veracruz in the Battle of Puebla in 1862.   Mexico, the underdog, had no artillery and about 4,500 soldiers, whereas France had one of the best-armed forces in the world and showed up with 6,500 soldiers.  The impressive victory by the devoted Mexican army shocked many and is now celebrated throughout the world.

5 Irish Whiskey Cocktails for St. Patrick’s Day

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Drinking Irish whiskey this St. Patty’s Day?  I don’t know a better way to commemorate St. Patrick!  Invented by the Irish monks, whiskey predates Scotch by over seven hundred years.  Most historians believe that it was invented sometime around 500 AD.  Originally named Uisce Beatha, or The Water of Life, whiskey was first used for medicinal purposes.  And if somehow you entered an altered state by drinking this Water of Life, it was considered a holy phase.  Nowadays, that holy phase is entered every St. Patrick’s Day by not only the Irish, but by anyone who is feeling Irish for the day.
