Dogfish Head Release a Low-Cal IPA

Dogfish Head released some very exciting news for hop heads who may be watching their calorie intake.  After a year-and-a-half of molecular research to make “a good, healthier beer,” Sam Calagione, founder and president of Dogfish Head introduces the Slightly Mighty Low-Cal IPA.  This full-flavored IPA at 4% ABV contains only 95 calories and 3.6 grams of carbs per 12-ounce serving.  That’s as healthy as a Michelob Ultra!

With the health and fitness industry booming, people have recently been more conscious of what they are drinking and eating.  Michelob Ultra brand has been sky rocketing.  So, Sam believed that he needed to start creating a brand that reflects this health conscious lifestyle to appeal to the masses.

The magic ingredient behind Slightly Mighty is monk fruit extract.  It naturally sweetens the beer with no added carbs or calories.  And what a process it was to be able to use this monk fruit extract!  Getting approval to use this extract took thousands of dollars and months spent lobbying the FDA. Kudos to Sam for the big push.  I’m sure he knows it will pay off in the end.

Slightly Mighty is already being poured in the tap room and will be widely distributed in cans by April of this year.  Keep this beer in mind for your new go-to low-cal IPA.  Who knew that was even a thing?!

Cheers to Dogfish Head,

Danyelle

Meet me at the bar. Whether it’s barbells, whiskey libraries, rum sanctuaries, or craft breweries…I’ll see you there. I travel far and wide for a good IPA, I can get down with a good Manhattan, and home is where the wine is. If my taste buds are pleased, you’ll know about it. Oh, and I like to lift. So, enjoy my fitness journey with a glass of wine.
