Brandied Fruit Day!

October 20, 2019

Have you heard of brandied fruit?  It’s a perfect way to sneak in some booze with your dessert.  Or, if you want a semi-healthy snack that’s extra tasty, you can whip out a couple of these to enjoy. I’m not sure if boozy snacks can be healthy, but hey, it’s fruit!

A simple recipe for brandied fruit contains whatever ripened fruit tickles your fancy, high-quality brandy, and sugar.  You can also add some spices or other flavors to jazz it up a bit.  Then, you simply can them and enjoy these tasty treats whenever you need an extra zing!  On top of ice cream is truly the way to go in my opinion.

Here are two recipes for you to try:

Ingredients

  • 1 C. fruit
  • 1/6 C. sugar
  • Jar
  • Brandy

Wash your fruit, peel, and slice if needed.  Fill a jar halfway with brandy and add your fruit.  For each cup of fruit, add 1/6 of a cup of sugar.  Cover the fruit completely with the mixture, seal lid tightly and store in a dark place.  You can eat this fruit at any time – for your fruit will be cured after a couple of months.

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 2 cups brandy
  • 1/3 cup blueberries, divided
  • 1 cup strawberries, quarter and divided

In a small saucepan bring sugar, water, vanilla, cinnamon and allspice to a slight boil.  Make sure sugar dissolves and then remove from heat.  Stir in the brandy.  Then, place fruit in jars and fully cover with the brandy mixture.

Hope you enjoy!

Cheers,
