Top 5 Tequila Drinks – National Tequila Day

Happy Tequila Day! 

One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor!  Enjoy this national holiday with some refreshing tequila cocktails concocted with fresh ingredients instead of that awful margarita mix.  Because, you’re better than that!  My favorite?  The Jalapeño Pineapple Margarita – the perfect amount of sweet and spicy! Here are my top 5 favorites.  Enjoy!

Frozen Paloma

Ingredients:

  • 1 large grapefruit
  • Lime
  • Salt
  • 1 ½ C. Grapefruit juice
  • 3 oz. tequila

Directions:  Cut grapefruit into segments and freeze.  Rim glass with lime juice, coat with salt and set aside. Blend frozen grapefruit, grapefruit juice, and tequila. Pour into glass and garnish with a lime wheel.

Jalapeño Pineapple Margarita

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 jalapeño slice
  • 1/4 cup Patrón Silver Tequila
  • 3/4 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/8 cup triple sec
  • Optional: Pineapple wedges and additional jalapeño slice for garnish

Directions: Muddle the jalapeño slice with lime juice in a shaker.  Add ice, tequila, pineapple juice and triple sec.  Shake well and pour into glass.  Garnish with pineapple and a jalapeño slice.

Sweet Heat Margarita

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. Jalapeño Tequila (Tanteo works well)
  • 1 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz. agave nectar
  • 4-5 muddled raspberries

Directions: Muddle raspberries in a shaker and then add the rest of the ingredients.  Shake well and strain into a glass with ice.  Garnish with a skewer of raspberries and enjoy!

Classic Frozen Margarita

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Blanco tequila (Try it with Patrón Silver)
  • 1 oz. Fresh lime juice
  • 3⁄4 oz. Orange liqueur
  • Salt for rim of glass

Directions: Salt the rim of a chilled Margarita place and set aside.  Add the tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur and a scoop of ice to a blender and blend well. Pour into chilled Margarita glass, garnish with a lime wheel and enjoy!

Oaxacan Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

  • 1 1⁄2 oz. Tequila (Try it with Patrón Reposado)
  • 1/2 oz. Del Maguey San Luis Del Rio mezcal
  • 1 barspoon Agave nectar
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

Directions: Stir all ingredients in a rocks glass with a giant cube.  Garnish with a flamed orange peel.
