In response to The New York Times attack piece published last Thursday, “The Aperol Spritz Is Not a Good Drink,” New Yorkers are joining forces in a Rally for Aperol. The entire internet clapped back to this publication with a message to the author, “You Are Wrong!” And, rightfully so. The Aperol Spritz is a perfect drink for warmer weather day-drinking, a dinner date, or a girls’ night out. They’re refreshing, effervescent, and beautiful in color – the perfect cocktail to brighten up your day.
The author of The New York Times article, Rebekah Peppler claims that Aperol Spritzs are “something that drinks like a Capri Sun after soccer practice on a hot day. Not in a good way.” Sounds like a hater to me! First of all…Capri Sun was one of the best drinks in my lunch box as a kid. And second of all, an Aperol Spritz tastes nothing like a Capri Sun. If you agree with me, I’ll see you in New York at the Rally for Aperol!
This Friday, May 17th, supporters of the classic cocktail will unite at The Springs in Greenpoint from 4PM until 2 AM to support the Aperol Spritz by drinking it in two forms! There will be Aperol Spritzs and slushies available for $10. And, if you wear orange to show your support, drinks will be $8 for you! If you’re one of the first 50 guests to order a drink, you will also receive free branded Aperol sunglasses.
And now a word for Ms. Peppler – No one asked your opinion of the Aperol Spritz and no one agrees with you. Maybe you’re frequenting the wrong establishments if you’re tired of low-quality, sweet prosecco. If this is your way to promote your new book, it is not working. You are getting nothing but eye rolls from your audience. Bye Felicia!
Cheers to the Aperol Spritz,
Danyelle
