Happy National Piña Colada Day!

It’s National Piña Colada Day!  And I have to say, Piña Coladas are my all-time favorite summer cocktail.  The coconut cream and pineapple juice together with rum transports me to an island where I’m basking in the sun on full-time relaxation mode.

The Piña Colada originated in San Juan, Puerto Rico at the Caribe Hilton Hotel, which is one of the most famous hotels in San Juan.  There are two stories of who actually created the Piña Colada, but both of the men who are claiming fame were bartenders at the Caribe Hotel.  The truth is, no matter who invented this wonderful, summer cocktail, it is enjoyed around the world by all!

I hope you enjoy today by celebrating with a fresh Piña Colada.  Here’s a traditional recipe so you can even make them at home!

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces white rum
  • 1 ounce coconut cream
  • 1 ounce heavy cream
  • 6 ounces fresh pineapple juice
  • 1/2 cup crushed ice

Directions: Add the rum, coconut cream, heavy cream and pineapple juice together in a blender. Add the ice and blend for about 15 seconds or until smooth. Serve in a 12-ounce glass. Garnish with a fresh pineapple wedge and a maraschino cherry.

Cheers and enjoy the day!

Meet me at the bar. Whether it’s barbells, whiskey libraries, rum sanctuaries, or craft breweries…I’ll see you there. I travel far and wide for a good IPA, I can get down with a good Manhattan, and home is where the wine is. If my taste buds are pleased, you’ll know about it. Oh, and I like to lift. So, enjoy my fitness journey with a glass of wine.
