National Doughnut Day

Summer Fridays are simply the best – especially when the office celebrates National Doughnut Day and we have the pleasure of starting off our work day with a tasty treat!  The business of doughnuts is booming and now people are flocking to shops that offer hand-crafted, freshly made-to-order doughnuts that range from coconut-pineapple to salted caramel walnut.  My favorite doughnut shop of all time? Broad Street Dough Company in Oakhurst, New Jersey!

But, we’re here to talk about all things liquor.  And I can’t say I ever had a doughnut in liquid form, but I found a couple recipes that can change my life for the better.  Enjoy these fun cocktails and shots and celebrate National Doughnut Day with a little booze!

The Glazed Doughnut Cocktail

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbs. dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 oz. cake-flavored vodka
  • 1/2 oz. vanilla vodka
  • 1.5 oz. plain old vodka (TITO’S!!!)
  • 1.5 oz. heavy cream
  • 3 dashes of cinnamon
  • 1.5 oz. Dr. Pepper
  • Mini donut to garnish

Directions: Pour your trifecta of vodkas into a shaker.  Add your brown sugar and mix with a spoon until well-dissolved.  Add your cream and cinnamon, some ice, and shake it like you mean it.  Pour chilled, mixed cocktail into your glass through a strainer. Add the Dr. Pepper and stir. Garnish, and drink your donut. Then also eat it. Cover all your bases.

Jelly Donut Shot

Ingredients:

  • 1 ounce Chambord
  • 1 ounce Bailey’s Irish Cream (or Rumchata)
  • Garnish – sugar for glass rim

Directions: Sprinkle some sugar in a small dish and wet the rim of the glass with a little water. Place glass rim side down in the sugar and make sure entire rim is covered. Pour Chambord 1/2 way full in the shot glass. Take your spoon and place it against the inside of the glass under the sugar but above the Chambord. Place your pourer in the Bailey’s bottle and pour the liquid slowly on the spoon until it fills up most of the way.  Shoot and enjoy!

Glazed Donut Cocktail

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz. (45ml) Cake Vodka
  • 1 oz. (30ml) Creme De Cacao
  • 3 oz. (90ml) Half & Half
  • Splash Vanilla Extract
  • Donut Holes/Mini Donuts
  • Vanilla Glaze
  • Sprinkles

Directions: Dip the rim of a glass in vanilla glaze and sprinkles. Set aside. To an ice filled glass combine cake vodka, creme de cacao, half and half and vanilla extract. Shake well to mix. Pour mix into glass and garnish with a donut and straw.
