Over 2 Million Jobs Created by the U.S. Beer Industry

The Beer Institute (BI) and the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) released a report stating that the U.S. beer industry created more than 2.19 million jobs paying more than $101 billion in wages and benefits.

The “Beer Serves America” report is truly a testament to its name.  It provides us with insight into the U.S. beer industry’s growth and impact on our economy.  The Beer Institute President and CEO, Jim McGreevy stated that the beer industry in the U.S. is “the crown jewel of American manufacturing today.” And this report proves that to be absolutely true!

The U.S. beer companies and wholesalers employ more than 200,000 American workers with each of these jobs creating an additional 31 full-time jobs in an adjacent industry.  Brewers and beer importers employ 69,928 Americans and large and mid-sized brewers and beer importers make up 58% of the industry workforce.  That’s huge!

Our beer industry generated $328 billion in total economic output in 2018 which made up 1.6% of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP is a comprehensive measure of the U.S. economy and its growth.)  The NBWA President and CEO, Craig Purser says that the industry “provides a lot of economic contribution and a lot of groceries on people’s tables across America.”  And I think right there he sums up the true importance of this industry.  So, keep up the good work by supporting all of your local breweries and American beer, especially during this Memorial Day Weekend.

Cheers!

Meet me at the bar. Whether it’s barbells, whiskey libraries, rum sanctuaries, or craft breweries…I’ll see you there. I travel far and wide for a good IPA, I can get down with a good Manhattan, and home is where the wine is. If my taste buds are pleased, you’ll know about it. Oh, and I like to lift. So, enjoy my fitness journey with a glass of wine.
